School of Foreign Studies

School of Foreign Studies is one of the earliest and most popular schools in Minnan Normal University with more than 1,300 students in 4 majors, 2 master’s programs, and more than 150 faculty members, including 7 professors, 40 associate professors and 19 doctors. School of Foreign Studies has been highly appraised by experts not only in rounds of evaluation but also in professional certification by the Ministry of Education.

School of Foreign Studiestakes “promoting virtues and cultivating students through education” as its fundamental principle, “fostering talents with both capability and moral integrity” as its primary goal, “meeting the demands of the society and economy” as its orientation, “foreign languages+” as its training mode, “cultivating excellent teachers and outstanding talents of Minnan culture translation and international business as its feature. In addition, School of Foreign Studies bases the talent training scheme and the talent training goal of accurate positioning on CBI educational principle to construct the curriculum system of the trinity of “solidifying language ability, spotlighting practical ability, and strengthening the comprehensive quality”. It carries out a progressive cultivation mode with the guidance of “basic language skills, professional knowledge, comprehensive quality, and professional development”, and it actively launches effective cooperation with enterprises and institutions to promote students’ coordinated development of knowledge, ability and quality. Moreover, School of Foreign Studies employs an integrated mechanism of teaching, learning, research, training, competition and examination, which has helped to strengthen students’ ability of practice and innovation and it has also established the PDCA “5321” and “dual path and dual cycle” quality assurance system to continuously improve education and to raise the level of school running .

With students as the center, disciplines construction as the stimulus and teaching and scientific research as the guidance, School of Foreign Studies continues to deepen educational reform, to enhance the vitality of education, to upgrade the development of professional connotation, to strive for first-class disciplines and majors, and to form its own features. I. Aim at the construction of master’s degree and doctoral degree of first-level discipline and reinforce the training quality of all students; II. Take the curriculum system as the medium and the majors as the foundation, meet the major strategic needs of the country, satisfy the requirements of industrial development and society and cultivate high-quality talents and technical support for regional development; III. Optimize the talent training program by integrating “value shaping, ability training and knowledge teaching” into it, take the ability training as the core and utilize various management to improve the quality of talent training scheme; IV. Improve the quality of classroom teaching, manage the teaching process, innovate teaching methods, update teaching content, expand the depth of the course, strengthen social cooperation, establish a long-term cooperation mechanism, enhance students’ self-development ability; V. Take the personnel system as the lever to build the staff, intensify the construction of teachers’ ethics, perfect the teacher evaluation system to stimulate teachers to improve their teaching and achievements.
